At the end of the last Ice Age, some 12,000 years ago, one or more cataclysmic floods occurred in what is now the northwest region of the United States, leaving a lasting mark of dramatic and distinguishing features on the landscape of parts of the States of Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The National Park Service has created an Ice Age Flood Geologic Trail tracing the route of the flood. My book provides photographs and descriptions of the features in Oregon and Washington. The cover photograph is Palouse Falls.
As a Park Ranger at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, I became fixated on the Ice Age Flood that completely changed the landscape of eastern Washington. I compiled this tour of the flood from Portland, Oregon, through the Channeled Scablands and back to Portland.
The Ninth Edition is available as eBook at the Lulu Bookstore. The only difference is that in the Tenth Edition I added two additional photographs comparing the Glacial Lake Missoula Flood and the Lake Bonneville Flood.
